What a morning!

We were thrilled to officially open the doors to our brand-new Second Life home at Hillside House, Lewes Road, Forest Row, on Monday 14 September, with more than 50 members of our community, volunteers, supporters and friends joining us to celebrate.

We were especially delighted to welcome our local MP, Mims Davies, who performed the official opening and took time to look around our new premises.

Mims said:

“What an amazing venture you have here – it looks so beautiful inside. I buy a lot of clothing myself second-hand. Well done to all of the volunteers for all the work they have put in to making this happen. What a beautiful frontage you now have and a super ethos here in the heart of Forest Row.”

Her words were a wonderful recognition of the incredible effort our volunteers have put into making our new home possible. From sorting and preparing donations to creating displays and getting every corner ready, their hard work has been at the heart of this move.

More than a shop

Our Chair of Trustees, Patricia Patterson-Vanegas, also spoke about what Second Life represents and our ambition to support the local community in making positive changes to the way we think about the things we buy, use and throw away.

For us, this is at the heart of the circular economy. Every time a pre-loved item is donated, bought and used again, we are keeping resources in circulation and reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfill or requires new resources to be produced.

But it's also about something bigger: behavioural change.

We want to make sustainable choices easy, accessible and enjoyable. Whether it's choosing pre-loved clothing, donating rather than throwing something away, repairing an item or simply thinking twice before buying something new, small changes can add up.

What happens here in Forest Row may feel small in comparison with the scale of global environmental challenges, but positive change starts with people and communities. By changing the way we value and use resources locally, we can contribute to a much bigger global movement towards a more sustainable and circular future.

A new beginning

Our new home gives us more opportunity to grow this work, welcome more people, support more local initiatives and continue creating a space where our community can shop, donate, volunteer and connect.

And, of course, the money raised through Second Life continues to go back into our community, supporting projects and local good causes.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped us get here,  particularly our amazing volunteers, whose time, energy and enthusiasm have made this new chapter possible.

We are officially open, and we can't wait to welcome you through the doors!
